The Waikikis - Hawaii Tattoo

The Waikikis

Belgian studio band from the 1960s, which specialised in easy listening Hawaiian style music. They had their highest popularity in Belgium and Germany, but their releases were also available on the American continent. Composers such as Jo van Wetter, Willy Albimoor, Hans Blum and Michael Thomas (Martin Böttcher) created songs, while behind the scenes, record producer Horst Fuchs promoted the band’s career and pulled the strings.
In 2004 the song “Hawaiian March” was used for the ‘Prince Paul’s Bubble Party’ track on the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie film soundtrack.

Dutch Project started by Jaap Eggermont.
Inspired by a bootleg 12" recorded by Alto Passion featuring The Beatles songs on a disco beat, Eggermont hired vocalists Bas Muys (as John Lennon), Hans Vermeulen (as George Harrison) and Okkie Huysdens (as Paul McCartney) to recreate the medley for official release. Coinciding with the death of Lennon, the release proved a hit not only in the Netherlands, but all over the world.
Because of the success, more medley's were produced, including ABBA, Stevie Wonder, Rolling Stones and later, with The Star Sisters, also a 1940's The Andrews Sisters medley.

What the Flying Saucers Did to the Female Sex!
About This Record
"In recent years, man has pondered the mystery of the flying saucers. This is one story of that mystery and the effect it had on the female sex."
So read the brief liner notes on the back of this one sided, ten-inch album from 1963. Such an alluring title that turns out to be a rather silly promotional for...

1962

A The Birth Of A Salesman
B The Birth Of A Salesman (continued)

August 20, 1927 - August 29, 2013
Bert Tenzer writer, producer, director, filmmaker, and creative visionary has died at the age of 86.

Bert died on August 29th, 2013 of complications from cancer at home surrounded by his family. He left this world the same way he came in, never giving up, always following his dreams, and displaying the courage and vision he was known for all his life.

The New York Times once wrote "Bert Tenzer's motion picture is 2,000 years ahead of it's time." Perhaps that also applies to Bert himself. Bert was born in Long Beach, New York, he began his career early, in his teens by writing a critically successful column in the city's newspaper called "Frankly Speaking" which was a satirical look at what was going on in the world at the time. Soon after still in his teens he produced a magazine where he wrote all the articles and sold advertising space to local retailers. This provided some revenue and paid for his college.

Acclaimed by Prentice Hall "Birth of a Salesman" was Bert's first recorded production. It dramatized and demonstrated what it takes to motivate and sell.

When Bert's career was interrupted by service in the US Army, Bert went to the head general and suggested a unique way to recruit soldiers via an armed forces radio show he called "Your Soldier in War".

From radio and records Bert moved to television in the early 1960s and he began turning products into 30 minute dramatized TV stories. What followed was a new generation of thirty-minute infomercials.

The end of the sixties was a time of revolution. "I looked at the madness of the decade and decided to get into motion pictures", said Bert. Not a shy individual Bert literally grabbed a guy who owned a 35mm camera and talked him into going around the country to capture what was happening. Bert wrote his first screenplay a story that would represent America as the Roman Empire headed for another fall. Titled "2000 Years Later", the finished movie, which Bert wrote, produced, and directed, was picked up by Warner Brothers. "Tenzer is a film maker who has produced one of the finest, most creative feature pictures I have ever seen", said the film's leading actor Terry Thomas, on "The Johnny Carson show". Judith Crist in her New Yorker magazine review, compared the film to Fellini's "La Dolce Vita" and "Dr. Strangelove" and urged her viewers to see it. Bert went on to write, produce, and direct other films such as "The Day The Music Died", "Free", and the "Summer of 70".

After movies Bert moved into video with the invention of the VCR. He built a franchise of more than 1000 stores across the country called "The Video Connection". He was a pioneer and the first to rent videos far ahead of blockbuster and others who later followed.

Toward the end of his career Bert created several TV news magazine shows highlighting businesses, the latest was called Moving America Forward. He also recently completed a film titled "Changes are coming," which was a combination of scenes from his original film "2000 years later" and new footage shot in 2007. He continued to work, write and create up until the end. Bert truly had a passion for life, his family, and work.

"Doing what you love to do with real passion, courage, and vision", that is how Bert lived his life and shall be remembered.

Bert was a loving father, husband and is survived by his wife Regina and two sons, Scott and Keith.

Erma Franklin - Piece Of Her Heart - The Epic And Shout Years (2011)

Piece Of Her Heart: Epic & Shout Years album by Erma Franklin was released Oct 20, 2009 on the Shout! label.  When 'Piece of My Heart' reached the U.S. Top 20 in 1968, the Pop music world was largely unaware that Janis Joplin's gritty vocal was but an echo of the emotive original by Erma Franklin from the R&B Top 10 of a year earlier. Erma was the eldest sibling in the Franklin family, senior to Aretha and Carolyn, and like the former was signed to Columbia Records in the early 1960's, producing a number of high quality singles and an album on the Epic label. She then pacted with Shout Records in New York in 1967 to cut four singles of bluesy Soul gems, moving to Brunswick in 1969. This collection brings together, for the first time, a comprehensive collection of all tracks released on both the Epic and Shout labels, reflecting the full range of Erma's musical talent in this fine showcase of Soul and Blues repertoire, also blessed with a hint of Jazz styling.

Born in Baltimore as Sara Bolling Hutchins (1935-1992), Sallie Blair drifted into music as a child. She took her stage name while at Douglass High School, then spelling it Sally with a Y, and gained experience singing with local bands that encouraged her to change her brunette hair to blonde. So in 1952 she made her first mark as the blonde, band singer with the Johnny Otis Band of Hand Jive fame.
Subsequently, she sang with the Illinois Jacquet and Duke Ellington bands. In July 1953, tired of one-nighters, she left the band business in Los Angeles to work as a single. Early in 1956, she began a solo career as Sallie Blair. In 1957, Cab Calloway signed her for his Cotton Club Revue. The show was a hit, and from then on, it was one triumph after another for the blonde bombshell.
Her sexy and intimate approach made her recordings ideal for radio programming and as a night-club singer. Walter Winchells column earned her spots on the Ed Sullivan and Johnny Carson TV shows and she became an international star with appearances in South America, Europe, and the Middle East.Although her stage persona became more sophisticated in style of delivery, voice and dress with the years, one thing is for sure: Sallie Blair delivered more sex and surging, sultry emotion in a song than many singers in their whole careers

Beverley Bunt ‎– Me And My Teddy Bear

A1 Me And My Teddy Bear
A2 Open Up Your Heart
B1 My Chocolate Rabbit
B2 The Queen's Highway
1958

Вспомнилась наша Ирма Сохадзе звездочка 60-х

👧

А вот найденная информация о ихней звездочке
Little Beverley Bunt, from the village of Indian Queens in Cornwall, was just seven years old when she recorded her first - and so far only – EP for His Master’s Voice back in 1959.

According to the sleeve notes, even at that young age Bev was already something of a veteran, having won several singing competitions including the Junior Vocal Championship of Cornwall.

Arranged and conducted by Ron Goodwin, the four songs on this release are just lovely: The Queen’s Highway attempts to teach children how to cross the road safely, and predates the Tufty Club and the Green Cross Code Man by years. Open Up Your Heart has also been recorded, notably by Little Marcy, as Let The Sunshine In.

Me And My Teddy Bear had been recorded by dozens of artists before, including a pre-Little Marcy Marcy Tigner, on her one-off EP for Angelus, which I featured on this very blog back in 2013. My Choc’late Rabbit, credited on the disc as having been written by a gentleman by the name of Pascal Marks was, in fact, co-written by American songwriters Gerald Marks, the author of All Of Me and Milton Pascal. The song had previously been recorded by Rosemary Clooney in 1950, the year before she hit the big time with Come On-a My House

Bev did not release a record under her own name again, although she did pop up in 1968 in the regional heats of a Miss Cornwall competition, and she also appears to have done some session work at Roche Studios in Cornwall in the late 1970s.
